Environ

The introduction of Vitamin A into skin care formulations was a groundbreaking moment in the beauty treatment world because of the great benefits it offered to sun-damaged skin. Developed by prominent Cape Town plastic surgeon Dr. Des Fernandes, who was a pioneer in introducing Vitamin A to skin cancer patients, the Environ range was born in the 1980’s and now has an extensive distribution network in South Africa and over fifty countries around the world. The efficiency of its products makes it a cult favourite among those in the know, acclaimed by international beauty editors, skincare therapist and dermatologists.

The Environ Ionzyme DF Machine

This machine provides facial treatments that are at the forefront of scientific skincare. It enhances the penetration of Vitamin A, C, E plus additional growth factors, through the skin, a crucial step because skin has a natural, waterproof barrier that hinders the penetration of vitamins. It overcomes this resistance with two tried and tested methods:

Iontophoresis: an electrical current that is passed through the skin and facilitates greater penetration of vitamins into the skin. It is used for larger surface areas such as the face and neck.

Sonophoresis: involves the use of soundwaves to transport vitamin molecules through the skin and produces better penetration through the skin than conventional ultrasound. It is used on limited areas such as the upper lip and around the eyes, on scar tissue and on pigmentation marks. Both methods combine to produce an intensive, effective treatment.

Collagen Power Facial

This peptide-packed facial uses gentle soundwaves to drive a special nutrientpacked serum (unique combination of three peptides complexes) deep into the lower  layers of the skin. It helps to boost collagen, soften fine lines and tighten lax skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Ideal for targeting mature or photo-damaged complexions.

The Environ “Concept of Skin Peeling”

Peeling has an important place in the treatment of congested skins, acne rosacea and the initial treatment of thick, rough skins.

Pigmentation should never be treated by peeling because when we peel the skin, we make it more susceptible to penetration by UV light and consequently there is more stimulus to melanocytes to make melanin, or, worse still, greater chance of DNA damage in the melanocytes.

Environ proposes a more physiological plan to avoid heavy peeling, and rather achieve safer results by light repetitive peeling.

The principles of Environ peels are based on the physiology of the skin cells and therefore the standpoint of Environ is generally against un-necessary peeling. We have to remember that it is the duty of every differentiated keratinocyte to die so that it can form part of the horny layer; we need that ultra fine layer (about 0.01 – 2 mm) of dead cells because it is our only protection against the environment. It has to be protected!

If the dead keratinocyte was shed too early then the horny layer would not be an adequate barrier and water would easily be lost and conversely, environmental toxins would easily get into the skin. On the other hand, if the horny cells do not release from each other and persist this creates a thicker layer of horny cells than normal (example: calluses, psoriasis and other hyper-keratotic conditions), that would prevent penetration of the active ingredients used by Environ.

The best way to treat this is to do a mild peel to remove the excess horny layer and yet maintain the water-proofing barrier qualities of the skin.
We do not need to torture cells to make smooth skin. The true Environ spirit of skin care is best served by “Iontophoresis” and “Sonophoresis” and the “ROLL-CIT” whenever possible to rehabilitate cells.
