Waxing

WaxingLotus Spa Wandsworth Common offers waxing treatments on eyebrows, face, legs, arms, back, chest, shoulders, abdomen, feet and of course the ever-popular bikini. We use either rose and aloe vera hot wax or tea tree strip wax treatments; both have calming and anti-inflammatory properties, reducing skin irritation during and after the process of hair removal.

Strip Wax
During your treatment, a thin layer of heated wax is applied to the skin in the direction of the hair growth. The hair is removed using a paper strip, pulled in the opposite direction of the hair growth, taking the hair with it, leaving a smooth, even finish.

Hot Wax

Hot wax is gentler on the area being treated so it is excellent for underarms, bikinis, Brazilians and Hollywoods. During the treatment, a heated hot wax is applied in a thick layer against the direction of the hair growth. After the wax has cooled, it is flicked off in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

Bikini Treatments

Standard Bikini Wax

A regular tidy up, taking off any stray hairs around the standard bikini area

Extended Bikini Wax / G-string Wax

A little higher than a regular bikini wax, allowing you to wear thongs without showing unsightly hair growth

Brazilian Wax

This waxing procedure involves the use of hot wax or strip wax to remove the hair from the pubic region. The Brazilian wax generally leaves a thin strip of hair on the pubic area, as opposed to the Hollywood wax. It takes around 30 minutes and is not generally painful, but can be a little uncomfortable. The result can last from ten days to three weeks, with no maintenance required during this period

Hollywood Waxing

The removal of all of the body hair based around the pubic region using hot wax or strip wax. Hollywood waxing on average takes 30 minutes and the waxing treatment is not generally painful, but a little discomfort maybe felt

Our Tips

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight or ultra-violet rays immediately before waxing and for 24 hours afterwards
  • Avoid perfumed soaps, creams and deodorants containing alcohol, which may aggravate the area
  • Avoid very hot baths, saunas and steams baths for 24 hours after the waxing
  • Try not to wear tight clothing after waxing. Opt for 100% cotton underwear after treatment
  • Men having their chest, back and shoulders waxed may notice some spots for the first few sessions due to the sensitivity of skin in this area. This is normal and can occur with all types of waxing. With regular treatments fewer spots will occur over time
  • Avoid touching the waxed area, especially your face, without first washing your hands. Waxing can open the pores in your skin and touching them with unwashed hands can cause spots
  • Don’t wax any areas where you plan to have a skinpeel treatment or use dermatological creams
  • It is normal for your skin to be a bit pink or red after a waxing treatment
  • Avoid waxing areas on which you are using self-tanning products as differences in skin colour can occur
  • Avoid having your treatment a few days before your monthly period starts, as the body is more sensitive at this time

Your Questions

Q: How should I take care of my skin after waxing?

Clean your skin with water and neutral soap. Apply soft moisturiser with no alcohol. Moisturiser containing calendula, chamomile, tea tree, and aloe vela can calm, soothe and reduce skin irritation

Q: Why is it not a good idea to have a waxing treatment before and during a menstrual period?

Hormonal changes can make your body more sensitive at this time, causing you to be more pain-aware

Q: Can waxing cause my hair to grow more thickly?

Removing hair with creams or by shaving will makes hairs thicker because the hair is cut at the surface, which makes the root stronger. Waxing removes the roots of most hairs, which causes them to grow back finer. Over a certain period of time, hair can stop growing completely in areas that are waxed regularly

Q: Why do spots sometimes appear after waxing?

These are small inflammations of the hair follicle. They are normally caused by ingrown hairs, which can’t pass through the skin due to inadequate exfoliation and moisturising

Q: Why can’t deodorant be used after a waxing treatment?

The chemical components and alcohol in the deodorant will aggravate sensitive skin. Avoid perfumed soaps, creams and deodorant containing alcohol for at least 12 hours after waxing

Q: Can waxing the eyes, upper lip and chin cause loose skin?

Waxing affects only the surface of the skin. Loose skin is usually caused by a weakness of the collagen and elastine fibres, which are not affected during waxing
